RV Slide-Out Maintenance: Complete Guide to Prevent Wear and Extend Lifespan

Before I even finish extending my 2018 Newmar 2702 slide-out, there's this grinding vibration that kicks in during the final positioning phase every single time. The motor works hardest during that last foot of travel when the slide settles into place.

This observation has me questioning optimal maintenance protocols for slide-out longevity. What are the most effective strategies for reducing mechanical wear on these systems? I'm particularly interested in understanding proper usage frequency, seal maintenance requirements, and whether partial extension during routine tasks like cleaning provides any protective benefits.

Looking for comprehensive guidance on preventive maintenance practices, lubrication schedules, and storage considerations that will maximize slide-out system lifespan while minimizing premature component failure. …more

RV Slide Out Moving Slowly? Complete Lubrication & Repair Guide [2024]

I tried everything I could think of, but after all that heavy rain last week, my slide out went from smooth operation to moving like molasses. It sounds like it's really struggling and straining, making these awful grinding noises that have me worried I'm going to break something expensive.

I've been reading that lubrication might be the answer, but I honestly don't know where to start. Should I be looking at the motor mechanism? The tracks? I've heard about hydraulic fluid but I'm not sure if my system is hydraulic or electric. I really need someone to walk me through what needs lubrication and what else I should check before this thing stops working completely!

Could you help me troubleshoot? Details that might help: Can you tell me the specific model of my RV and the type of slide out system it uses? …more

Fleetwood Bounder Slide Out Reset: Fix Lost Stop Points & Controller Issues

Slide out lost its stop points during a power surge at the campground and now it extends way too far and retracts too deep. Fleetwood Bounder forum says I need to reset the controller but the process involves running the slide to its limits and I'm afraid of damaging the mechanism. …more

How to Fix RV Slide Out Water Leak from Bottom - Wiper Seal Repair Guide for 2023 Models

About two weeks into living in my 2023 Forest River Forester MBS2401B and this slide out I've never dealt with before is leaking water from the bottom. The leak occurs specifically when the slide is in the retracted position during wind-driven rain events. Water is penetrating at floor level beneath the dinette area of the full wall slide assembly.

I have verified that all visible seals appear to be properly seated and the topper awning shows no obvious damage. Given that this is occurring on a current model year unit, I need to understand if this represents a manufacturing defect covered under warranty, and what specific component is likely causing the failure at the bottom of the slide mechanism. …more

Lippert Power Gear Slide Motor Replacement: Complete Guide to Parts &

Walked out to prep our RV this morning and discovered our Lippert Power Gear slide motor is making grinding noises and won't extend properly. My RV's slide motor is failing and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get replacement parts. The slide is getting sluggish and I suspect it's either the motor brushes or possibly something in the gearbox itself.

I've been searching everywhere for Lippert Power Gear parts but I'm not sure where to look or what my options are. As it stands, the replacement parts are ridiculously expensive - a $100 gearbox, $50 brake, and $100 motor, but Lippert wants nearly $1000 for the whole assembly. I just want to replace the brushes, but they won't even sell those separately!

Can I buy just the motor component, or do I need to replace the entire gearbox assembly? I really need to know where I can actually purchase these parts and how to determine whether it's a motor issue or a gear problem before I spend a fortune on the wrong repair! …more

Schwintek Slide Out Only Goes One Direction: Complete Troubleshooting

Between the $800 repair quote and my Schwintek slide that only goes one direction, I'm seriously considering tackling this fix myself. Got a Schwintek slide that's being a total pain - it only moves in one direction no matter what I do.

Here's the kicker: I've already swapped out both motors, got a brand new controller, even ran fresh wiring. Still doing the same thing! When I reverse the RET and EXT wires at the controller, it'll go the other direction but then won't come back. Consistently got error #8 when I tried the override.

I ran a jumper to motor #2, tried motor #1, checked fuses, replaced the RET wire connector, and still nothing. I disengaged both motors, manually pushed the slide in and measured both sides to confirm it was even. The motors work, the slide moves fine mechanically, but something's not letting it reverse properly.

I'm thinking it's gotta be something with the wiring or maybe the control module isn't actually switching polarity like it should? Anyone dealt with this before? What causes a slide to only go one way when all the hardware seems good? …more

Vroom Slide Out of Sync After 3-7 Cycles - Troubleshooting

Already got quoted $800 to fix my Vroom slide that's going out of sync after 3-7 cycles since upgrading from Schwintek rails last year and wondering if I can tackle this myself. While I was excited about the upgrade based on all the positive reviews, I'm running into a frustrating synchronization problem. The system works fine initially, but after about 3 cycles it starts going crooked, and by the 7th cycle it completely stops operating. I can resync it and it works again, but the pattern repeats every time. I've already swapped out the controller thinking that was the culprit, but I'm getting the same behavior with no error codes showing up. This is really disappointing since my old Schwintek system, despite its eventual gear failure, never had sync issues like this. Has anyone else experienced this kind of repetitive sync loss with Vroom slides? I've got an appointment with a Vroom technician next month, but I'm hoping to get some insights beforehand. …more
