RV Slide-Out Maintenance: Complete Guide to Prevent Wear and Extend Lifespan

Before I even finish extending my 2018 Newmar 2702 slide-out, there's this grinding vibration that kicks in during the final positioning phase every single time. The motor works hardest during that last foot of travel when the slide settles into place.

This observation has me questioning optimal maintenance protocols for slide-out longevity. What are the most effective strategies for reducing mechanical wear on these systems? I'm particularly interested in understanding proper usage frequency, seal maintenance requirements, and whether partial extension during routine tasks like cleaning provides any protective benefits.

Looking for comprehensive guidance on preventive maintenance practices, lubrication schedules, and storage considerations that will maximize slide-out system lifespan while minimizing premature component failure. …more

Fix RV Low Water Pressure on City Connection: Troubleshooting Pump Assembly

Last week my pressure regulator started reading a solid 40 PSI on city water but my water pump keeps cycling on for 5-6 seconds when everything says it should stay completely off. When I connect to city water, my water pressure regulator shows a solid 40 PSI, which should be plenty, right? But here's the weird part - my water pump keeps kicking on for about 5-6 seconds then shuts off, even though I'm connected to city water and the pump switch is supposed to be off.

The really frustrating thing is that the pressure feels weak throughout the RV, with specifically the bathroom sink and kitchen sink seeming low, though the shower has good pressure. I've already changed out the intake/check valve and don't currently have a filter in the system. I can see the pump running while on city water, which I know is not normal. I noticed the kitchen and bathroom sink screens were plugged - which might explain some pressure issues - but now I'm wondering about the toilet's low pressure. Could there be a screen in the toilet line I'm not seeing?

I've been full-timing for two years and never had this issue before. What should I be checking for? I'm handy enough to do basic repairs but need to know where to focus my troubleshooting efforts. …more

RV Water Pump Running But No Water? Complete Troubleshooting Guide 202

Finally looking at my RV water pump right now and it's running constantly but there's absolutely zero water coming out of any faucets. However, when activating any fixture throughout the system, the water pump initiates and runs continuously without producing water flow at any outlet point.

All system components appear to be functioning mechanically - pump motor engages properly, electrical connections are secure, and there are no visible leaks in accessible plumbing runs. The symptom manifests uniformly across all water delivery points including kitchen, bathroom, and exterior service connections.

What diagnostic steps should be performed to identify the root cause of this no-flow condition despite continuous pump operation? …more

RV Water Pump Pulsing & Cycling Issues: 7 Causes + DIY Solutions

Noticed my RV water pump keeps pulsing and cycling on its own even when no faucets are running - is this dangerous with kids around? The water pump keeps turning on and off rapidly - like every few seconds - even when I don't have any faucets or anything running. It's doing this pulsing thing constantly.

I've heard someone mention something about an accumulator tank, but I'm not really sure what that is or how to check it. Could there be other things causing this too? I'd really appreciate some guidance on what might be wrong and where I should start looking. This is all pretty overwhelming as a beginner! …more

RV Water Pump Failure - Emergency Roadside Repair Guide

The Trek motorhome's water pump just died at 11 PM in the middle of nowhere — need to figure this out before morning. While returning from Assateague, just north of Smyrna, Delaware, my water pump failed with a cloud of steam, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Thankfully, Coach-Net, our road service provider, found us a tow to Lube Station and Repair in Smyrna. The Delaware State Police and Smyrna Fire Department were incredibly helpful, checking on us during this stressful situation. We ended up staying the night in the shop's lot and made it home only a day late. Has anyone else experienced something similar and have advice for handling roadside RV emergencies? …more
Using Household Water Supply Lines in RV: Pressure Impact

Using Household Water Supply Lines in RV: Pressure Impact

Got this annoying water pump vibration in my RV and can't afford a service call right now — any way to fix it for under $50? Right now I have 1/2" PEX connected directly to the pump discharge, but I've read that's not the best setup and can cause vibrations throughout the system.

I'm thinking about installing one of those braided stainless steel supply lines (like the ones used for household faucets) right after the pump to help dampen the vibrations. The thing is, most of the braided supply lines I'm seeing are 3/8" inside diameter, while my current PEX is 1/2".

I'm worried about creating a bottleneck that might hurt my water pressure or flow rate. Would switching from 1/2" PEX to a 3/8" braided line right at the pump discharge significantly impact my water flow? I don't want to solve the vibration problem but end up with weak water pressure throughout the RV. Any guidance would be really appreciated! …more

2015 Winnebago Vista V-10 Pulsing During Acceleration Fix

2015 Winnebago Vista V-10 Pulsing During Acceleration Fix

Standing in front of a 2015 Winnebago Vista V-10 that pulses during acceleration — should I walk away or is this worth buying and fixing? My 2015 Winnebago Vista with the F53 chassis and V-10 engine developed this awful pulsing problem during acceleration after driving through mountain passes in Montana. It feels like the engine is cutting out then surging back - not rough idle or jerking, just this frustrating loss of power that comes and goes.

I've tried everything I can think of - checked vacuum hoses, inspected connections, even tried fuel additives thinking it was bad gas. The diagnostic scan only showed one code: "Fault received from External Node" which apparently relates to the instrument cluster, but the tech had no clue what that actually means or if it's connected to my acceleration problems.

What could be causing this pulsing issue on a V-10 after mountain driving? I'm hoping someone has seen this before because I'm running out of ideas and really need to get this figured out before my next trip. …more

How to Fix Shurflo 4008 Pressure Switch Failure: Complete DIY Repair Guide

Every time I turn on a faucet in my new RV, this Shurflo 4008 water pump just won't quit running like it's stuck in overdrive! 🏃‍♂️ Even when I'm not using any water, this thing is chugging away like it's got somewhere important to be.

I'm pretty sure it's the high pressure microswitch acting up. As I learned, this can cause the pump to run continuously due to a high resistance short. The good news is you have multiple repair options:
- Replace just the microswitch
- Replace the pressure housing (3 screws)
- Or swap the entire pump (about $73 on Amazon)

Has anyone dealt with this before? I'd love to avoid replacing the entire pump if possible, but I'm also tired of listening to this mechanical marathon runner! …more

Jayco Precept Windshield Wiper Motor Troubleshooting & Repair Guide

Noticed my 2025 Jayco Precept 29V windshield wiper motor completely died after I followed a YouTube repair tutorial that somehow made everything worse. The system appears to be integrated with the Ford chassis electrical components, but I need to systematically troubleshoot the root cause before pursuing warranty repairs.

What are the primary failure points in the Jayco Precept wiper system, and what diagnostic sequence should I follow? I need to verify whether this is a fuse issue, switch malfunction, motor failure, or mechanical linkage problem. The symptoms suggest electrical failure, but I want to eliminate all possibilities methodically.

Specifically looking for guidance on the Ford chassis integration and most common failure modes for this model's wiper system. …more

1999 Itasca Sunflyer V10 Drivers Side Coil Bank PCM Issue

Pulled every trick in the book — replaced all five driver side ignition coils, swapped the PCM, checked every connection — my 1999 Itasca Sunflyer V10 still throws codes P0356, P0357, P0358, P0359, P0360. Running on 5 cylinders only.

Tested +12v at each coil connector - all good. Tested for ground pulse during cranking - nothing on drivers side, but passenger side coils pulse normally. No visible wiring damage found.

Does this testing confirm PCM failure in the ground switching circuit? Seems unlikely all 5 coils failed simultaneously. …more
