Fix Renogy Lithium Battery Charge Percent Differences

Nobody has $200+ laying around for a service call — is there a DIY fix for Renogy lithium batteries showing wildly different charge percentages? About a year ago I installed 3 12v Renogy lithium batteries with a Renogy One Core control panel in my RV. Everything worked beautifully at first - the batteries were supposed to communicate with each other to keep all cells balanced, which is critical for lithium battery health.

Recently though, I've noticed the charge percentages are diverging by as much as 10% between batteries. Even worse, my One Core display keeps going blank and won't show charge percentages until I restart it. I've been through the manuals multiple times but can't find anything about troubleshooting charge percent differences or how to check for software updates on either the batteries or the control panel.

I know this communication/balancing issue could lead to serious problems if not addressed. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm hoping there's a solution that doesn't involve replacing everything after just one year of use. …more

RV Battery Boost System: How to Connect Chassis and House Batteries for Emergency Power

Every time I try starting my RV, my chassis battery barely cranks in 30°F weather, takes forever to turn over, AND just died completely at my last gas stop. The voltage dropped to about 11V and it failed the load test. I tried using the battery boost switch but had to hold it down for about a minute before it worked.

How exactly does the battery boost system work? Does it connect the house batteries to help start the engine? Is it normal to have to hold the switch for that long, and what should I check to prevent this from happening again? …more

Complete Newmar RV Lithium Battery Upgrade: DC-DC Charger and BIM Wiring Guide

Staring at my 2019 Newmar's freshly wired lithium upgrade with Victron BVM-712, Orion XS DC-DC charger, and Cerbo GX — finished yesterday but the system still isn't charging properly.

The main issue is I can't figure out how to properly integrate my existing boost switch with the new DC-DC charger setup while maintaining the ability to trickle charge chassis batteries. Currently, my Orion XS DC-DC charger flows only one way from engine alternator to lithium batteries. Should I replace the existing BIM with a LI-BIM, which would be in series with the 2/0 cable? Is there a control wire on the Orion XS that will allow flow from lithium to chassis batteries while on shore/inverter power?

I'm considering adding a 120V battery tender for chassis batteries, but want to confirm what modifications might be needed to my existing BIM. Can someone provide guidance on the correct wiring approach? …more

How to Install a Lithium Battery Manager Relay in Your RV - Complete Guide

Got my weekend planned to install a lithium battery manager relay in my 1999 Fleetwood American Dream Saturday — what should I have ready beforehand? I understand these relays are crucial for protecting lithium batteries from overcharging by managing the connection to the alternator, but I want to make sure I understand the complete installation process before I start.

I'm looking for detailed information on how these battery manager relays function - specifically how they disconnect the batteries from the alternator when charging isn't needed. More importantly, I need step-by-step guidance on the actual wiring process, including how to properly connect the relay between my alternator/converter and the new lithium battery bank. I'm particularly concerned about getting the fusing right and understanding what control circuits are involved in this setup.

This is a significant electrical modification to my RV's charging system, so I want to ensure I have all the technical details covered before I begin the installation. Any comprehensive guidance on the complete process would be extremely helpful. …more

50 Amp RV Inverter Charger Replacement Guide

Finally moved into an RV with a 20-year-old Tradewinds inverter/charger unit that's completely dead and I have absolutely no idea how to replace it. The repair shop is offering a used Magnum MS2812 (2800VA) for $700 installed, but I'm concerned about its actual charging capacity versus my requirements.

My RV is wired for 50A shore power service, and I need an inverter/charger that can handle the full charging load. The shop claims the MS2812 will work, but the specifications seem to indicate it's only a 30A charger unit. Are there any legitimate 50A inverter/charger options available under $1000, or should I be looking at different manufacturers like Progressive Dynamics or Aims for this price range? …more

How to Prevent LiFePO4 Battery Over-Discharge in RVs: Low Voltage Disconnect Guide

Planning a cross-country RV trip, but my Ecoflow Delta Pro keeps shutting down unexpectedly when running our AC, despite our 400ah LiFePO4 house batteries showing plenty of charge. Problem is the system drains our house batteries to 0% until the BMS shuts everything down.

Need a way to automatically cut power to the Ecoflow charger before the LiFePO4 batteries get too low. What's the best voltage cutoff point and what type of relay or disconnect device works for this application? …more

Banks Pedal Monster Ford F53 Motorhome Review: Does It Really Work?

Halfway through every camping season, I find myself second-guessing whether that Banks Pedal Monster I installed on my 2017 F53 chassis motorhome was worth it. After installation, I'm honestly not feeling much difference in performance, even in the most aggressive setting. The sales literature made it sound like it would dramatically improve acceleration and power.

I'm worried this expensive modification isn't actually doing anything meaningful for my heavy motorhome. Should I be feeling more power by now, or did I just throw money away? I'm starting to think maybe these throttle controllers don't actually work on big RVs like they claim to. Can someone help me understand what this thing is supposed to actually do versus what it can realistically deliver on an F53 chassis? …more

Ford E350 RV 20 Amp Charging Limit: DC-DC Charger Solution for LiFePO4

Noticed the Ford manual shows standard charging rates for my E350, but after upgrading to LiFePO4 batteries I'm only getting 20 amps max. Expected to see crazy high charging rates when I first tested it, but nope - stuck at exactly 20 amps whether I'm idling or revving to 2500 rpm.

I ended up installing a DC-DC charger anyway (heard too many horror stories about frying alternators), but I'm still curious - is there something from the factory that's limiting me to 20 amps? Like maybe Ford built in some kind of isolator or something to keep the original lead-acid batteries happy? Just seems weird that it's such a consistent number regardless of RPM. …more

RV Red Warning Light: How to Identify Unknown Electrical Components

Woke up to find my RV's mystery electrical component glowing red instead of the green light the manual promised, and I can't even figure out what this thing is! In the picture I uploaded, you can see the component with the red warning light that just started appearing recently. I'm pretty sure that's not a good sign, right?

I'm thinking it might be some kind of detector or maybe part of the electrical system? There are so many gadgets crammed into these rigs. Anyone know what typically has red warning lights in RVs and what I should be looking for to figure out what this thing actually is? Would love to get it sorted before it becomes a bigger problem! …more

Dead House Batteries on 50 Amp Shore Power: Troubleshooting Guide

Turned on my 2024 Entegra Reatta XL this morning to find the house batteries completely dead again despite being plugged into 50 amp shore power—third time this season and I'm done guessing. New batteries, good connections, power was working fine for days then died completely. Voltmeter shows 12.69V on chassis, 4.7V on house batteries at the BIM.

What's the proper troubleshooting sequence for house batteries not charging on shore power? Need to check converter, breakers, and connections but want to do this systematically. …more

2017 Ford E450 Alternator Output: Complete DC to DC Charger Sizing Guide for RVs

Somewhere between installing my DC to DC charger and realizing I don't know my 2017 Ford E450's alternator output, I'm wondering if this setup could be dangerous with my kids living in our RV full-time? I've been down every rabbit hole - VIN lookups, parts catalogs, service manuals - and I keep getting conflicting information or just replacement part numbers instead of actual specifications.

I'm planning to install a DC to DC charger for my LiFePO4 house batteries, but I absolutely need to know the real alternator output before I size the charger. I've seen everything from 120 amps to over 200 amps mentioned for the E450, but nothing definitive for my specific year and configuration.

Can someone please tell me what the actual alternator rating is for the 2017 E450, and more importantly, what size DC to DC charger I can safely run without overloading the alternator? I really don't want to fry anything, but I also don't want to undersize the charger if I have more capacity available than I think. …more

Ford V10 Multiple Coil Codes Driver Side: Diagnosis & Repair Guide

Somewhere under the hood of my 1999 motorhome's Ford V10 there's a complete light show of coil codes P0351, P0353, P0355, P0357, and P0359 blinking across the entire driver side bank. Power and ground tests at individual coils show normal readings, and visual PCM inspection reveals no obvious damage.

Given that all affected coils are on the same bank, I suspect this isn't a coincidence of multiple simultaneous coil failures. What are the most likely common failure points that would cause multiple coil codes specifically on one engine bank? Should I be focusing on shared wiring harnesses, common ground points, or PCM driver circuits before replacing individual components? …more
